Town of Barrhead

In the heart of north-central Alberta, Barrhead has long been the place where people come together to do business, access essential services, and build their future. For generations, the community has served as the established hub for surrounding rural communities, providing a strong foundation of healthcare, retail, professional services, education, and recreation that supports residents and businesses across a broad trading area.

Today, Barrhead is building on that legacy with purpose and momentum.

Rooted in one of Alberta's most productive agricultural regions, Barrhead's economy has evolved into a diverse and resilient mix of agriculture, healthcare, manufacturing, construction, retail, professional services, and small business. Local entrepreneurs continue to drive innovation and growth, supported by a business community that values collaboration, adaptability, and a willingness to embrace new opportunities.

This spirit of growth is reflected in the investments taking place across the region. Significant upgrades to the Barrhead Healthcare Centre are reinforcing the community's role as a regional service centre, expanding healthcare capacity and improving access to care for residents throughout the area. At the same time, regional partners are working together to attract new investment, strengthen workforce development, and create opportunities for businesses to thrive.

Events such as the LIFT Business Conference bring together innovators, employers, and community leaders to share ideas, build connections, and create new opportunities for growth. Municipal leaders, Community Futures Yellowhead East, Barrhead Chamber, local organizations, educational partners, and businesses are actively investing in economic development initiatives designed to attract talent, support entrepreneurs, and position the region for long-term success.

For investors and business owners, Barrhead offers a compelling combination of advantages. A strategic location within an hour of Edmonton, with access to major transportation routes connects businesses to regional and provincial markets and maintaining the affordability and flexibility that many growing companies seek. Available land, supportive local government, tax incentives, strong regional partnerships, and a skilled workforce create an environment where businesses can establish roots and expand with confidence.

Recent years have demonstrated growing confidence in the region, with substantial increases in major project investment reflecting both public and private sector commitment to Barrhead's future. This momentum is helping to create new opportunities across multiple industries while strengthening the economic foundation that has sustained the community for generations.

Yet Barrhead's greatest strength may be its quality of life.

Residents enjoy the benefits of a welcoming, family-friendly community where recreation, culture, and community spirit are woven into everyday life. Modern recreation facilities, parks, trails, sports programs, schools, healthcare services, and vibrant community events create opportunities for people of all ages to connect and belong. From local festivals and agricultural celebrations to volunteer-led initiatives and community gatherings, Barrhead is a place where people take pride in their community and actively contribute to its success.

Families are drawn to the affordability, safety, and strong sense of community that make Barrhead an exceptional place to call home. Entrepreneurs appreciate the support and connections available within the local business ecosystem. Investors recognize the potential of a growing regional centre that is actively preparing for the future.

As workforce development initiatives, healthcare investments, business attraction strategies, and regional partnerships continue to gain momentum, Barrhead remains focused on what has always mattered most: creating opportunities for people and businesses to succeed.

Barrhead is more than a place on the map. It is a community that is intentionally building its future, where business succeeds, families flourish, and opportunity grows naturally.
